No Sew Halloween, part 2

October 30, 2012

OK. Tomorrow is Halloween. I’ve got news for you: if you thought you could just whip a costumer together at the last moment, fling a few stitches on something or get crafty with no-sew tape, you’re out of time.

I know. Really. As a master procrastinator-excuse maker, I can tell you I’ve been there.

Now is the time to consider no-sew options that are easy, cute and kid-friendly. My top two faves? Black-eyed Pea and chest of drawers. Both are easy to pull together for just a few dollars at Goodwill.

Black-Eyed Pea: Works best if you start with a uniform color base, preferably brown or black. Find black trousers and a black top at Goodwill and you’re set.

Cut the letter P out of felt (if you want to pretend like you didn’t throw it together at the last minute) and pin it to the front of your shirt. No felt? No problem. Duct tape works just as well.

Use eye makeup to blacken one of your eyes and you’re good to go.

Chest of Drawers: Again, start with a monochromatic base — white, blue, black, it doesn’t matter. Just make sure your shirt matches your pants. Take a handful of underwear and pin it to your chest. Don’t want to put your skivvies on display? No worries — some Goodwill locations sell NWOT (new without tags) undies for a fraction of retail price.
