It’s almost officially winter, and we are here to help you sort through yet another wave of trends as we approach the holiday season and beyond.

How can you avoid trend overload while saying current?

Take a few tips from the arbiters at whowhatwear.com:

Watch proportion: Volume should always be paired with a slim counterpart to keep proportion in check. Big boxy sweater? A cigarette pant is the perfect balance. Wide-legged pants? A fitting top will work wonders.

A little goes a long way: Bold patterns go far and also should be balanced with solids. Head-to-toe animal or graphic print is overload. Avoid overloading on textures and fabrics like denim, corduroy and velvet – a piece or two does the trick.

Unexpected holiday attire: Skip the sparkly sweaters and dresses: work up some wow with a pair of fancy pants for your holiday party.

Change it up: Jewelry is one place to have a lot of fun by shaking up the way you wear it. Try two cuffs instead of one. Rock the Wonder Woman vibe by wearing one on each arm or layer on one arm.

What are your favorite ways to style the trends of the season?
