Trend Convert: The Skinny Belt

My latest fashion obsession? The skinny belt.

As a short-waisted girl, I am a longtime belt avoider. Wear something that draws attention to and accentuates my curves in the least flattering way? No thank you.

But the skinny belt has been a revelation for me. Chic, gentle definition of the waist and perfectly on trend for spring and summer. And it indulges my love for vaguely retro fashion — think 1930s.

My skinny brown patent belt is so versatile, I dare say it may replace my beloved shoe collection as my favorite go-to accessory. I’ve worn it twice in the past week. Once with a casual linen tunic and leggings for girls night out, and again with with a black silk DKNY dress for date night with my husband.

Now that I’ve conquered my fear of the belt, I’m a woman possessed. I’m planning on hitting Goodwill this week on the search for the perfect black sash, another spring trend.

Belts at Goodwill are 99 cents. Really! For that price, you can afford to get many skinny belts in a variety of colors to add pop to any ensemble.
