Treasure-hunting at Goodwill

I was reminded recently of one of the best things about shopping at Goodwill: discovering diamonds in the rough.

A Goodwill shopper in Cary bought a painting for $6.99 that could be worth $1,600.

I know those are among my favorite purchases, the designer goods that are literally a fraction of their retail value, hanging there on the racks just waiting for my careful eye.

I’m not alone either — a good friend has been on a tear lately, snatching up a St. John faux fur coat for $35 (retail around $700) and multiple pairs of Stuart Weitzman shoes for less than $10 a pair (they retail for $130 and up).

What are your favorite diamond in the rough finds from Goodwill?
